Privacy Policy
Last updated: 19 October 2026
This Privacy Policy explains how Dext Desktop ("we", "us", "our") handles information in connection with the Dext Desktop application for Windows ("the App") and the website at dext-desktop.com ("the Site").
1. Overview
Dext Desktop is designed to keep your documents on your own machine. We collect as little personal information as possible, and we never sell it.
2. On-device processing
The App reads, categorises and stores your receipts, invoices and statements locally on your device, in an encrypted library. This document content is not transmitted to us. Data only leaves your device when you choose to sync or publish it to third-party accounting software that you have connected.
3. Information we collect
- Account and licence details — such as your name, email address and licence key, when you activate a licence or contact us.
- Diagnostic data — limited, non-identifying information about crashes and performance, used to keep the App stable. You can disable this in the App's settings.
- Site data — basic, aggregated analytics when you visit the Site, such as pages viewed.
We do not collect the content of your documents.
4. How we use information
- to provide, maintain and improve the App and the Site;
- to deliver your licence and respond to support requests;
- to diagnose problems and keep the App secure;
- to meet legal obligations.
5. Sharing
We do not sell your personal information. We share limited information only with service providers who help us operate (for example, payment and email providers), under contracts that require them to protect it, or where required by law.
6. Retention
We keep account and licence information for as long as your licence is active and as needed to meet legal and accounting obligations, after which it is deleted or anonymised. Your local document library is controlled entirely by you and is removed when you delete it from your device.
7. Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, delete, or receive a copy of the personal information we hold about you, and to object to or restrict certain processing. To exercise any of these rights, email us at [email protected].
8. California privacy rights
If you are a California resident, the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), as amended, gives you the right to know what personal information we collect, to request its deletion, to correct inaccurate information, and not to be discriminated against for exercising these rights. We do not sell or share your personal information as those terms are defined under California law. To make a request, email [email protected] with the subject line "California Privacy Request"; we will verify and respond as required by law.
9. Contact
